Chemotherapy and Allopathic Treatments for Cancer may affect the body in other ways. In order to mediate these side effects as well as optimally heal and recover during these treatments, an ideology in Eastern Medicine has been highly regarded and researched as effective, known as Fu Zheng therapy. We can appreciate the aggressive treatments of Western Medicine to kill the cancer cells, however the aggressiveness can be harmful on the body.
In the 1960’s, allopathic treatments became more normalized in China. However, it did not go unnoticed that there were negative side effects produced as a result. They began to do research and found that the use of certain supportive tonic herbs to strengthen the person, gave much better results for recovery. Fu Zheng translates as - strengthen what is correct and secure the root. These nutraceuticals and adaptogens modulate the immune system, help from damage to bone marrow, and strengthen core organs helping to prevent damage to immune system and increase survival rates. In particular, the polysaccharides found in many medicinal mushrooms known as Alpha and Beta Glucans, feed white blood cells increasing the activity of the NK cells. These can be taken consistently throughout one’s life with no side effects, only the constant feeding and activation of the immune system.
When NK cells are activated, they are less inhibited by abnormal cells. The ability to increase not only the amount of NK cells in the body, but the activity of those cells is highly important to increase white blood cells and attack abnormal cells.
Below, you will find more information about tonic herbs and medicinal mushrooms and their use specifically for cancer treatment:
Reishi: It is approved in Japan, used safely and effectively to reduce side effects of chemo. While also contributing to rebuilding the immune system, it stimulates the production of interferon and interleukin -1, and -2 which are potent natural anticancer substances produced in our own bodies.
Cordyceps- Through intensive research in Japan and China, for the potential to treat cancer, a number of polysaccharides found strenghthen the immune system; CO-1 has been shown to have strong anti-tumor activity.
Gynostemma: Studies on the anticancer activity of Gynostemma have shown a significant (20-80%) inhibition rate on a wide range of cancer cells.
Codonopsis: Rich in immune stimulating polysaccharides, it is shown to be useful in supporting the immune system of people with cancer while using the herb in conjuction with conventional cancer therapies. Also effective in protecting patients from the side effects of radiation therapy.
Lycium (Goji berries): Contains a range of polysaccharides that have pharmacological effects on lymphocytes and have been shown to improve immunity. When Lycium was provided to 20 elderly people once a day for 3 weeks, more than 2/3rds of the patient’s T cell transformation functions tripled, and the activity of the patients white cell interleukin-2 doubled.
Astragulus-Incresases macrophage activity, with potent immunomodulating effects and reduces the activity of suppressor T cells, while also increasing NK cells, helping the antibody response. Studies conducted at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center at the University of Houston, the world’s largest cancer research institute, demonstrated that Astragulus improves the immune response in humans undergoing radiation and chemotherapy as a treatment of cancer. The FDA has not approved it for this purpose although it has been approved for exactly this purpose in many other countries. It tends to protect the white blood cells from leukopenia ( destruction of white blood cells due to the chemotherapy or radiation) and maintains the healthy activity of these immune cells. Patients taking Astragulus during such treatment tend to have far fewer side effects and to recover at a faster rate.

Coriolus (Turkey Tail): The equivalent of the FDA in Japan uses Coriolus to treat cancer allopathically. Turkey tail mushrooms contain compounds called polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and polysaccharide-K (PSK). PSP and PSK appear to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Many of these herbs and immunoceuticals can be found on Jing herbs( which is very well sourced), or you can try to find them at your local health food store, otherwise I can offer other suggestions. Click on the link below to discover the many herbs and formulas Jing Herbs has to offer. Contact me with further questions about which ones specifically have alpha glucans for building immunity.
Increase cancer fighting foods— cruciferous vegetables; broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower
CURCUMIN (turmeric root) :has been shown to affect microtentacles (McTN) that are present in mammospheres with CSC properties. McTN are tubulin-based protrusions present in detached cells. McTN may be involved in cell adhesion and attachment and have been hypothesized to be involved in metastasis. CUR was shown to affect the McTNs and prevented reattachment . Possibly, a ketogenic diet or at least low sugar, as cancer cells feed off sugar in the body so starving them out would be beneficial.
Structured Water (4th Phase)— water is everything for our health. These days the water we drink can have less effective ways of enhancing life in the body. due to pollution etc. The fourth phase of water is a crystalline phase which holds a higher frequency. The best source of water is natural spring water.

"During childhood illness, grandmothers and doctors will often advise: “drink more water.” In his now-classic book, titled Your Body’s Many Cries for Water: You Are Not Sick, You Are Thirsty, the Iranian physician Fereydoon Batmanghelidj con- firms the wisdom of this quaint advice. The author documents years of clinical practice showing reversal of diverse patholo- gies simply by drinking more water. Hydration is critical.
Batmanghelidj’s experience meshes with evidence of heal- ing from special waters such as those from the Ganges and Lourdes. Those waters most often come from deep under- ground springs or from glacial melt. Spring waters experience pressure from above; pressure converts liquid water into EZ water because of EZ water’s higher density. So, spring water’s healing quality may arise not only from its mineral content but also from its relatively high EZ content. For spring water and fresh ice melt, then, the high EZ content may explain the recognized health benefits. EZ water should rehydrate tissues better than ordinary water because of its higher dipole moment. To appreciate this argument, pic- ture a bean, with positive charge localized at one end and nega- tive at the other. The positive end of that dipole orients toward the negatively charged cell, which then strongly draws in that dipole. The larger the dipole, the stronger will be the draw. Since EZs contain masses of separated charges, or large dipoles, EZ water should hydrate cells better than ordinary water. That’s why EZ water may particularly promote good health.
